Finding the Right Dress For Your Figure!

Congratulations, you’re engaged! Or perhaps you're going to be in a wedding? Or maybe you're attending a very elaborate social event. Either way, its time to find the perfect dress! When selecting the perfect dress, you must always be aware of your body type to find the dress that will compliment your gorgeous figure. As women we have a variety of body shapes, but generally all women will fall into one of four body type categories;  apple, pear, hourglass and strait bodied. By determining which of these body types is your figure, you have taken the beginning steps in finding the perfect dress for you!

The Apple.

The apple of my eye! Apple bodied women are generallyclassified as being bustier on top, while being smaller around the waist and hip area, with some having broader shoulders. The basic rule of thumb for apples are that they are smaller on the bottom than they are on top. Some examples of apple bodied women would be Dolly Parton and Jennifer Hudson.

When choosing a dress for yourself if you fall into the
apple bodied category, you want to choose dresses that are not cut too low. Basically, avoid massive cleavage ladies! Off the shoulder gowns for apples are fantastic, as they minimize the bust area and accentuate the shoulders. Halter type and sweetheart gowns (such as Dollys) are beautiful as well, as long as they are not cut too low.

The Pear.

Pear bodied women are usually defined as being smaller in the bust and larger in the hips. Some examples of pear bodied women would be Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce. Girl, The hips dont lie!

When choosing a dress for yourself if you fall into the pear bodied category, you want to choose dresses that draw attention to your upper body. Because of your body type you can pretty much get away with any top style. Lucky you! Whether its a sexy low v-cut halter, a sweetheart neckline, or a basic strapless. Its all on you.
Depending on your size, if you are a bit fuller, try to stick with full skirts, such as the A-Line style with an elegant cut top. This will in fact make you appear slimmer while drawing attention from your tummy up to your face and chest so people can draw in on your gorgeous smile. Just remember, have fun and don’t be afraid to take some chances! Use your body type to your advantage by playing with jewelry as well.

The Hourglass.

Hourglass bodied women are generally defined as having proportional bust and hips with a perfectly defined waist. Jealous much?
Some examples of hourglass bodied women would be Kim Kardashian and Halle Berry.

When choosing a dress for yourself in this category…well... the sky is the limit! No matter the style, whether it’s a figure hugging mermaid cut gown, or a beautiful flowing empire gown, etc... Anything will look absolutely fabulous on you, because of the proportions of yoru body! So what are you waiting for? Go have some fun!

Strait bodied ( or Athletic).

Strait bodied women, or otherwise known as athletic figures are usually petite. Strait bodied types are defined as having a small frame with little or no curves. Some examples of strait bodied or athletic bodied types are Cameron Diaz and Nicole Kidman. Oh and wait, who else? A majority of top fashion models ;).

When choosing a dress for yourself if you fall into this category, your goal is to visually create curves. A perfect dress would be the A-line cut dress. This dress not only gives illusions of curves, it also lengthens the body. Remember to steer clear of full skirts as they may make you look ‘bottom heavy’ and we certainly don’t want that! A hugging mermaid style would look fabulous as well as its cut at an hourglass shape which will define your body. Any dress for that matter can work, as long as you remember that your end goal is to visually create curves. The easiest way to do this you this ask? Easy...just define your waist! You can easily define your waist by perhaps wearing a sash that matches your wedding colors, or perhaps investing in a corset undergarment to cinch your waist into a curvy dream. When selecting a dress feel free to also choose whatever upper style may please you as it can also too help to visually create curves. A beautiful cut would be the sweetheart neckline or even a halter top.

Remember, ladies when choosing dresses, your ultimate goal is to visually proportion your body. By visually proportioning your figure you achieve a balance. With balance theirs nothing else but visual eye candy. That is why if you are small on top, you def. want to accentuate your bust so its in proportion with your hips, or vise versa. By selecting dresses that compliment your body. You will definantly be stunning as you shashay your way down the aisle or perhaps underneath those jealous glances of that evil co worker.

Either way, remember to have fun with your dress. Because in the end not only do you want to choose a dress that visually compliments your gorgeous figure. You want to choose a dress that ultimately makes you happy.

Cheers to you beautiful as you enjoy that special day!
